HS Chemistry 2010-11
This class is considered a first-year high school chemistry course. It gives the student a rigorous foundation in chemistry, in order to prepare him or her for a college-level course. The course covers significant figures, units, classification, the mole concept, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, acids and bases, redox reactions, solutions, atomic structure, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, the gas laws, and equilibrium.
Math Prerequisite: This class requires the ability to manipulate equations. Students need to be strong in this area to be successful in this class. Students must have successfully completed Algebra I prior to taking this class.
Curriculum: Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 2nd Edition
Instructor: Chris Ratcliff
Homework: Extensive, to include daily reading and questions, chapter review questions, tests, and lab reports.
Supplies Needed: Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 2nd edition text, Solutions and Tests, Companion CD-ROM is highly recommended, 3-ring binder, notebook paper.
Class Fee: $25 ($140 for non-participating families)

HS Chemistry Supplies
I forgot to mention in the course catalog that your student will need a scientific calculator. I recommend something similar to the TI-30XA which can be purchased at Walmart for under $15.00.
Also each student needs a 3-ring binder with notebook paper. I do not want them doing lab reports and homework in a spiral bound notebook. Student will need to turn things in for grading and the uneven edges on spiral bound notebook pages are a pain.
I am looking forward to teaching your student this fall.
Thanks
Chris
